My spooktacular stories....

Posted on apr 22 2012 by Megan

I have recently been asked to put a few of my own ghost stories together for our site, something I most certainly don't mind sharing. The best part about telling my personal stories is seeing how many people respond with tales quite similar to my own. So if you would like to share something with us, we all love hearing from you.

When I was younger I lived in two very haunted houses. The first had a spirit that was actually easy to get used to while the second housed something a little more sinister. I will share a few experiences about the second house.

One night I was coming home fairly late from a friends house while my family was out of town. I was probably around eighteen at the time so I remember it well. I pulled my car around the house, parked and shut of the ignition when something in the big bay window caught my eye. I stared for a few seconds at a shadow of a large man in my house and I got the distinct feeling of being unwelcome. I glanced away to see if the door was broken or tampered with and when I looked back at the window the figure had vanished. Obviously I was incredibly uneasy about entering my home after that, but I figured that it was something paranormal and not an actual person. I had a few very big outside dogs that would have let me know right away if someone had broken into the house, but instead they were sound asleep. Sure enough, after searching the place (with all the lights on and my dogs in tow) I found myself alone.

When we first moved into the place I picked one of the rooms in the basement. The other would be used as a storage spot. The storage room is something that is hard to put into words... I just got very bad feelings about it. I refused to go in it and even walking near the door made me break out into goosebumps. My room, however, felt normal. One night, after my family had gone to bed, I decided to stay up and read. I'm the type of person that cannot easily put down a book once I start it, so it was about three in the morning when I heard the scratching for the first time. It was faint at first, on the middle of my door. I paused to listen, unsure of what the noise could have been from. However, after a few moments it got much more violent. I was literally frozen with terror, unable to do anything but stare. It sounded like very long claws that now were raking the wood from top to bottom in a crisscross. Then, the back of my closet (which shared a wall with the storage room) started making the same noise. Something wanted in, and whatever it was, was not leaving until it did. When my doorknob started jerking back and fourth I broke out of my trance and decided that I needed to get out before it got in. So I crawled out of bed, placed my hand on the moving doorknob and did something that I somewhat regret- I closed my eyes. After feeling my way upstairs I woke my family to tell them what had happend. I have to say that I'm a pretty tough person but I was crying really hard. After I had calmed down I went back to my room, closed the door and after what seemed like ages I fell asleep... to the sound of very faint, but still present scratching at my door.

These are only a handful of experiences that I have had over the years, but I can still remember every paranormal happening quite vividly. I know that not everyone gets to witness this sort of thing, but if you ever do get the chance, I can garauntee that you will never forget it.

Exorcism...

Exorcism (from Greek exorkismos - binding by oath) is the religious practice of evicting demons or other spiritual entities from a person or place which they are believed to have possessed. Depending on the spiritual beliefs of the exorcist, this may be done by causing the entity to swear an oath, performing an elaborate ritual, or simply by commanding it to depart in the name of a higher power. The practice is ancient and part of the belief system of many cultures and religions.

Requested and performed exorcisms occurred rarely until the later half of the 20th century where the public saw a sharp rise due to the media attention exorcisms were getting. There was "a 750% increase in the number of exorcisms performed between the early 1960s and the mid-1970s".
